Case Studies Due at Final Exam Day/Time!

Reminder, your case study is due at our final exam day/time.

Sec. 5–8 AM on 5/12

Sec. 13–9:30AM on 5/14

You will be turning in one rough draft and your final draft!  You will also receive your portfolio back that day!  The case study is worth 60 points, so do your best and finish the course in strong standing!

Tuesday’s (5/5) Homework

Today, we handed in our portfolios.  If you were NOT in class, your portfolio needs to be hand delivered to my office ASAP!  Preferably today.

We also discussed your your final writing assignment–Your Case Study.  Student Sample Case Studies were provided on the Lab Activities page for today.  Most of you wrote at least half of your rough draft in class today.

Keep in mind that you need to bring a complete rough draft of your Case Study to our last “real” class on  Thursday. See the assignment sheet for a refresher on details such as due dates!

Thursday’s (4/30) Homework

Today in class, we discussed the upcoming final portfolio.  I gave you a copy of the cover sheet for this assignment.  You can use this link to type in the responses to the sentence starters for each portfolio piece.  Please be sure to read the top which outlines the portfolio’s importance for English 180.

Important Announcements & Homework (4/21)

For your own information, you can read p. 89-92 in Writing from Private Places to Public Spaces. This is an introduction to what we will be doing for the next three class sessions—a PRACTICE ESSAY EXAM.  The fun part is that we get to deal with actual content AND you will get to construct the pool of potential ESSAY QUESTIONS.  My job will be to present you with the content, provide you with opportunities to analyze that content, and select one ESSAY QUESTION that will serve as your PRACTICE ESSAY EXAM.

The practice Essay Exam will be Thursday, April 30th.  You will be allowed 50 minutes to type a response to a single essay question.  In preparation for this practice essay exam, we will be analyzing the “College Experience” using various media.  Some of your preparation will be done in class, while you will have to do some preparation on your own (like study!)  The practice Essay Exam is worth 50 points!!

You will need your headphones for today’s homework.

Tuesday’s (4/14) Homework & Announcements

Ok, the time is drawing near to complete and turn in our Research Papers.  Today in class we discussed exactly what items you will be expected to turn in on April 21st (next Tuesday).  Check your assignment sheet for details OR click here for details!

*Don’t forget that class is canceled on Thursday!  Also, take advantage of my open conference opportunity from 10-3 on Thursday.  Remember, I will be at my office at Simpkins during those hours. Feel free to stop by office; NO APPOINTMENT IS NECESSARY!  COME WITH SPECIFIC QUESTIONS IN MIND AND/OR A DRAFT TO TALK ABOUT.

Please plan your time accordingly so that that you have enough time to get everything completed before class on Tuesday.  Email me with any questions over the weekend!

Post-Conference Homework & Reminders (4/9-4/13)

Thanks to all who attended conferences!!!  For class on Tuesday, please make your revisions to your Rough Drafts of your Research Papers. Bring two copies of this “Revised Rough Draft” to class on Tuesday, April 14th!  Be sure you print out single-sided copies of your revised rough draft. We will be doing some Peer Response activities that require cutting (with real scissors)!

Tuesday’s (4/7) Homework

1. Class is canceled this Thursday!
2. Conferences for our research papers begin Thursday and end on Monday.  Be sure you arrive on time and on the correct day!  Conferences will be held in my office at Simpkins.  Be sure to bring 4 copies of your Research Paper (Rough Draft) to your conference.
3. While you are working on your Research Paper Rough Draft, please remember that you are using your Opinion Paper as the basis for this paper.  In other words, you don’t need to re-write the entire paper!  You are using your sources to find support for your points in your Opinion Paper.  It is really this simple.  Use the guidelines concerning quoting and paraphrasing that we practiced today in class!!!

PLEASE DON’T HESITATE TO EMAIL ME WITH ANY QUESTIONS YOU HAVE.  Don’t wait until the last minute to pull this draft together!
